Overview of WebLogic

–WebLogic Workshop is an integrated development environment for building enterprise-class J2EE applications on the WebLogic Platform.

– WebLogic Workshop enables you to focus on building the business logic of your application rather than on complex implementation details.

–WebLogic Workshop makes it easy to design, test, and deploy enterprise-class applications.

–WebLogic Workshop is available in two editions:

  • WebLogic Workshop Application Developer Edition includes the basic features to build web services, web applications, custom controls and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs). They also include support for XMLBeans.WebLogic Workshop Platform Edition includes additional extensions to the IDE and runtime framework that let you build portal applications and business processes in conjunction with the WebLogic Portal and WebLogic Integration products, respectively.

One way to configure Server on opening a .work file?

    • work file is nothing but the Application file.

    • Navigate to File -> Open -> Application…

    • Browse and look for the .work file and click Open.

    • An error message pops up if it is the first time you are opening this application. This is because you have not yet configured your Server.

Next step is to configure the server.

Steps to configure Server using config.xml

Wait for the ‘Updating compiler jar cache…’ popup to complete its task.

Initially when the Server configuration has not yet been done, this error message pops up and on clicking Ok on that, it allows us to configure the server.

Next, a dialog box to configure the server settings pops up.

    Configure Server Settings

  • Config file normally resides in one of the folders inside the application itself.

  • But if your team has not provided you with the config file temporarily and you want to have a look at the code before that, WebLogic facilitates you to create a sample Server / config file and map it to the project just to view the code. Remember, you cannot run the code.

  • The reason why we need to create this sample config settings is because, if you click Cancel from the error dialog box you previously saw, the application is completely closed. Your purpose of viewing the code will not be served.

Steps to create this Sample Server in the following page

    • Copy paste weblogic for the password in the diagonally opposite screen.
    • Note the path from where you need to browse for your config.xml in the above screen.
    • Choose Sun JDK in the adjacent screen

    Steps to Run the code

    • Now if you have got the correct config file you can run the code.
    • All you can see now is one workshop and many projects inside it.
    • Right-click on the workshop file and give a build.
    • After successful build, start the Server by right-clicking on the status bar at the bottom on Server Stopped
