Swami Nityananda who was linked to a sex scandal after video showing him with a woman was aired few days back, was arrested on Wednesday in a village which is around 50 km from Shimla, police officials say.
He was arrested from a house in Arki town, Solan police chief Prem Thakur said.
Nityananda was hiding at Solan over a month. The swami was arrested after a non-bailable warrant which was issued against him by high court.
He has been charged under several sections of the IPC.
Video telecasted in March showed Nityananda in bed with a woman. However, he denied any wrong doing. On March end, nithyananda announced his decision to resign as head of Dyanapeetam ashramam and from all trusts associated with that, living a life of "spiritual seclusion" for an indefinite time.
The swami’s purported untrustworthy acts in company of a an actress were aired by many of the TV channels on 3rfd of March. He claimed that the images in the video have been modified and he had not done anything illegal in this regards.
